Why I Came to Fairway Independent Mortgage?

After 10 years in the mortgage business, I made the decision to move the Jeff Baxter Mortgage Team to Fairway Independent Mortgage.  I’ve been here now for about 5 weeks and I thought I’d share the reasons I chose Fairway over the other lenders I had spoken with during my decision-making process.  And, I’ll share a suprise.  You’ll see why this company has revealed itself to me as an absolutely awsome place to be associated with – it’s the culture, the belief system, and doing what you say you are going to do.

This is who we are. . .

I wanted a mortgage company that would be able to continue to support us operationally with quick and no hassle closings.  At our old company, we were able to get over 85% of our closing packages out at least 48 hours prior to settlement.  That is critical and Fairway delivers on that front.  I have a settlement on Monday that was clear to close 3 days ago and our docs were at the attorney’s office this past Tuesday.

Similary, I wanted a mortgage company that understood the beach condo market and would approve the condo’s that I needed to finance for my clients.  This was also critical and Fairway has delivered on that front as well.  I’ve settled loans in Bethany Proper and Sea Colony in Bethany Beach (both with gound leases) with absolutely no hassle about the project approvals and leasehold approvals – this company gets it.

I was also looking for a company whose culture was a good fit – guess what?  I found it.  Not only was Fairway recently voted the #1 mortgage company to work for by mortgage loan officers, one of the founding priciples of the company is that they are “Committed to Serve”.

As many of you know, I support Justin’s Beach House with contributions for each mortgage loan we close and am a founding sponsor of the Mortgage of the Month Club started to pay down the mortgage on Justin’s Beach House.  I believe strongly in giving back to the community in which you do business.  But, I was blown away 1 week into this new company when we started planning a “Boot Camp” to teach Realtors how to better “serve those who serve” and to earn the Certified Military Residential Specialist (CRMS) desgination and 3 CE credits.

Not only does Fairway “talk the talk” about serving the military client, they “walk the walk” by sponsoring the donation of mortgage free homes for disabled veterans.  In fact, we announced the first 2014 donation right here in DE on Tuesday at the Rehoboth Beach Boot Camp.

Our local CBS news affiliate – WBOC – covered the Boot Camp event where we announced the donation of a mortgage free home to a local disabled vet – a marine who fought in Iraq.  The news story is here:  Local Veteran Receives Home

Over 100 local Realtors earned the CRMS designation at this event (and another 125+ in Wilmington).  I’m very proud the Jeff Baxter Mortgage Team is now associated with Fairway Independent Mortgage.
