And so it begins . . . the Casa De Campo golf trip.
We flew in on Monday afternoon and got the first round in on Tuesday morning, Dinner was at the Beach Club that evening and we had a great time.
How about this view for breakfast in the morning?
Six (6) of us – the early arrivers – teed off on the Teeth of the Dog for an early morning practice round with our two (2) local caddies – Sonny and Lionel.
Our caddies are the same guys we used on last year’s trip. Sonny went out with Steve, Dave & Shaun while Lionel guided Tim, Mike and I around the course. A little team match between the threesomes using the best 2 balls net. And, naturally there was a skins game.
Weather was warm as expected, but we did have to deal with a few rain showers at multiple times during the round. Good news is that the rain only lasted a few minutes each time.
Shaun shot the low round of the day (78) and Tim came in with a strong 80 that was only marred by 4 or 5 three-putts. I shot a poor 84 with only 1 birdie and way too many bogeys. The greens were very firm and the ball is flying much farther than I’ve become used to playing winter golf in Delaware. Only one ball in the water though.
The team match ended up a push as Steve, Dave and Shaun blew a big lead in the last 5 holes. That was about the only good news from the round – I didn’t lose any money and actually had one skin clear.
