The Tour UA is a national amateur championship sponsored by Under Armor. It is structured by flight, similar to the Tour on the Shore, except that it is national in scope. Typically, there are 12 regional qualifying events that are 18 hole stroke play tournaments. The top 15 from each flight, in each regional qualifying event, are invited to the National Championship Tournament. All 4 flight winners in each regional tournament earn a free entry into nationals.
I’ve played in the past two (2) National Championships which were held each May in the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, FL. The finals are a 54 hole stroke play tournament played over three (3) courses. My first year – 2016/2017 – was tough. I barely qualified in the North Florida regional coming in 15th and ended up tied 43rd at Nationals.
Last year was much better. I qualified by coming in 10th at the Maryland qualifier and ended up 19th at Nationals where we played in rain all three days and had the second day rained out after 9 holes.
I’m looking forward to making a better finish this year.
The 2018-2019 finals are being help in Ocean City, MD – right in my backyard. Here is the qualifying schedule and more details.
